Strains Available

I am approved to use “Alaska Grown” Logo for AHB Alaska Honey Bee queens in package bees, and single queens. This only applies to AHB queens, and Package bees with AHB queen accompanying..

1. – Alaska Honey Bee (AHB) Alaska_Grown_new_member Currently Available. Breeders are from a colonies that have been surviving winters in Alaska, untreated (ZERO anything). This years AHB Breeder Mothers are from my own yards here in Alaska. Breeder Daughters mated in California. Since mating is done in California with multiple drone’s, progeny will be hybrids. Russian Base line Genetics. Substitute queens incase of mating failures will be either IRS, or Carniolan.

2. – Improved Russian Stock (IRS)Breeders From the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. Breeder Daughters mated in California. Since mating is done in California with multiple drone, progeny will be hybrids except for the drone progeny. Russian, Caucasian Base Genetics. Substitute queens incase of mating failures will be either AHB, or Carniolan. Olympic Wilderness Apiary – Wild Survivor Queens

3. – Caucasians (Not Available for 2024)  New source honey bees for Alaska from  Olympic Wilderness Apiary – Wild Survivor Queens. From Treatment Free Apiary. Breeder Daughters mated in California. The breeders are of Caucasian Base Genetic.

4. – New World Carniolan (NWC) First Cousin to the Russian, always a great choice for Alaska’s cooler conditions. They winter really good.

5. – Italian – I do not consider Italian honey bees to be suitable for Alaska conditions, Always good brooding, comb builders, and honey producers. Not known to winter well in northern locations. Must have a five package bee Minimum to order Italians.

I am the longest running supplier of Package bees in the state of Alaska, dating back to 1993, 28 years without a break. I may even be the largest supplier, I weigh around 200 lbs. Supplying bees longer than any other supplier in Alaska. I offer four-pound packages of honeybees, which I import from Central California.

This season I am providing 4 pound package bees.

I sell package bees of selected genetics, that are hybrid genetics, with queen Daughters that can, and will be any color hue. Do not buy bees from me if you are stuck on bees being one color. Real bees can be any color, only Man selects for color in an artificial way. Read more at bottom of page, and also about Queen replacement policy.

I prefer folks to place an order by email for documentation at klm@gci.net, unless you have no email service, you can call me to order.

Orders accepted up to, and at times beyond, delivery dates. Please feel free to place an order at any time. Dates for bees to arrive will be April in Spring.

It gets more difficult to make changes the closer arrival gets. If you are unable to pick up your bees at arrival, when you get a phone call, to pick them up, you would need to have someone arranged to pick them up for you ahead of time. This is where you call on a beekeeper friend to help out, just like in the old days. If you do not have a beekeeper friend you really must get out sometime, and meet some beekeepers. Please be sure to read further for information concerning your area. I may add an additional shipment number if order numbers mandate it.

Queen replacement policy.

I have a queen replacement policy that others do not offer. Here it is, I will replace dead, failing, and missing queens from the current package bees sold this current year before the third week in May, or up to three weeks after package bee pick up, free of charge. Why, when other suppliers only give you a week to get replacements. I want you to enjoy, and get a good return on your initial investment in your bees. I really do not care if you accidentally kill your queen, I will replace her for free within the conditions given above. Call me and I will priority mail you a queen usually the next day or the following day. You will receive her usually in three days from mailing if Sunday does not get in the path.
What I will not do is replace a queen that you do not like the color of, since all strains in nature comes in all the color hues of Honey Bees.
In nature queens come in a variable rainbow of colors in the black, brown, and yellow hues. In nature these colors in every strain express them selfs dependent on mostly geographical reasons, Like lowland verses highlands, and latitudinal lines North verses south. In nature the bees sort this out with their mating strategies. In the artificial world of Mankind we have hybrids that are hand selected from nature to bring out unique characteristics that Mankind deems what is good. Color is one, like Italians that come in many hues naturally are deliberately selected for the lighter hues. Some beekeepers think they are pretty.
Since the bees I sell are not pure of any strain, then queens produced may be, and can be, of any color hue honey bees come in. So I will not replace a queen that you do not like the color of. You may not like black bees, yellow bees, or let’s say tiger-striped, but you will be getting what you paid for, a hybrid bee. I sell hybrid bees.
One of the reasons other commercial queen producers put out yellow (Italian), or black Carniolan consistently is because they sort out the colors their customers demand of color. In their large operations do you think they never see opposing queen colors. The public citizen beekeeper only knows they get what they pay for.
If what it is you want is a consistently black, or yellow queen bee then you might want to buy bees from another supplier whose queen producers select for color. New World Carniolans are black, but even they can be a lighter color at times. I sell package bees of selected genetics that are hybrid genetics that can and will be any color hue.
